Video Analysis

The Cure – The Lovecats

· Duration – 3:42

· Genre – Alternative Rock

· Analysis – At the beginning of the video a gate opens to signal the start of the video. This symbolically invites the audience into the video, and the song. This is very similar to our video as we too have a door opening at the beginning to invite the audience into the room and the lives of are characters.

We see the lead (Robert Smith) begin singing in an abstract, untidy room. This setting is directly reflective to our first filming location (Bedroom). The contrast between the set (which is white) and the costumes of “The”, (which are black) make them stand out against the wild and strange objects surrounding them in the room. This is further backed by the large shadows created by the spotlights. This evokes a feeling of insanity upon the viewer. “The Cure” use a number of cat costumes to fit in with the theme of cats throughout their video. We are keen to use the idea of costumes as a number of the cures music videos use such costumes: for example “Close To Me”, “The Caterpillar”, and of course “The Lovecats”.

The video uses a series of different negative effects when looking through the eyes of the cat. They are using this to show that it is abnormal or even paranormal behavior of the cat. This video is very similar to ours as we have used some of the ideas to create the theme of " The Cure" as being eccentric and wacky.
